I have my own program on NHK, which is the national Japanese TV channel. It is called "Samurai Spirit" and although we are filming on the second episode it will eventually become a full series. Last time I shot on location with various masters of Kendo, and this time the story line of more or less the same, although it is about Kyu-Do. Do you know Kyu-Do? Japanese archery. It has been around for centuries, originating from the ancient Samurai Warriors. The most obvious thing you notice about Kyu-Do is, the very long bow. It is more than 2 meters long, and not something you just swing over your shoulder. Then there is the special way of shooting the arrow which is very unique to Kyu-Do. I have never done a Martial Art until now that has not required an opponent, but Kyu-Do still gave me something I had not expected. It gives you an inner peace and calm that takes a hold on you, even though it seems simple, the more you know the less you get. It is truly a Martial Art.
